Building Chest Muscle

When most guys think of the muscle groups that attract the right kind of attention from females, they immediately think about biceps. After all, “guns” get all the attention, right? Not necessarily! For one thing, a well built chest, complete with strong, toned pectorals, is something that women find very sexy. Also, no woman wants to date a man who has huge arms, but does not have any other muscle groups that match the impressiveness of the guns. You will want to be symmetrical if you really want to have a look that you can proudly show off at the beach during the summer.

What are the best ways to build chest muscle? Well, contrary to popular belief, there is more than one way to do so. You can build chest muscle with many different exercises, rather than simply hitting the bench presses every single day. In fact, you will want to diversify your workouts if you want to really see huge gains in your chest area. Your body will become accustomed to doing the same exercises over and over, and you will hit what is called a “plateau” if you do not change up your workout now and then.

For instance, every now and then you should ease away from the barbell bench press and pick up a couple of dumbbells instead. A dumbbell bench press will be instantly familiar to you, but it will also make your muscles work in a slightly different way, as well as strengthening and shocking your stabilizer muscles as well. It is important to work in dumbbell exercises and not only stick to your comfort zone of using a barbell every time you do chest exercises.

Also, experiment with different types of bench presses when possible. You can try an incline bench press, or even a decline bench press at times. These will hit different areas of your chest and shock your muscles into continued growth. These can be done with a barbell or dumbbells, though you will still need a spotter, especially for the decline press! As always, do every rep with intensity and try to maintain strict form and great posture.

You do not always have to have access to a gym or weight set to work out your chest muscles. Sometimes the simplest exercises are among the best. That is why you should work push ups into your routine whenever you get a chance to. This type of body weight exercise not only forces you to have good form (as long as you do not cheat!), but it is also a great way to compare your current strength to how strong you used to be. You can change your hand placement or even put your legs on a workout or exercise ball in order to throw a variation into your push ups.
